Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage uses gentle flowing strokes to release tension in the superficial muscles of the body. Benefits include improved circulation and lymph flow, decreased levels of cortisol (stress hormone) in the body, and improved mental clarity.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage employs slow and steady pressure to sooth and relax the muscles. It is is a corrective technique that “irons out” adhesion formed within the muscle fibers due to postural deviations and holding patterns that the individual has developed. The slow, gradual pressure readies the body to accept deeper work thereby accelerating the healing process.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a technique that works directly on the fascia or connective tissue of the body. Fascia wraps around all muscles and organs of the body, providing support and shape. Through chronic overuse, trauma, surgery, or a sedentary lifestyle, fascia can become extremely tight and fibrous, causing pain and discomfort. Myofascial release is a gentle yet incredibly effective modality for addressing fascial pain. Included under the umbrella for myofascial release are neuromuscular therapy and trigger point work, which address specific issues and pain syndromes relating to fascia.
Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that balances the energy systems of the body. It is based on the eastern medical belief that disease and dysfunction in the physical body are first evident in imbalances in the energetic body. In the balancing of the energetic body, we decrease the likelihood of developing imbalances in the physical body. This technique involves a gentle “laying on of hands,” and can be administered while the client is fully clothed. Most clients report feelings of deep relaxation. Reiki is a modality that is easily integrated into other healing sessions.
Prenatal Massage
Prenatal massage is tailored to the specific needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies. Massage during pregnancy may reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pain, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health.
